Prayers for Marriages Within the Church

The Word of God is not ‘old-fashioned’, as some would have us believe, but continues to be 100% relevant in modern-day lives. This should be reflected by the church living in fear of the Lord, adhering solely to ‘love’ as defined in the scriptures, and modelling it. Pray for the church and all who are in positions of leadership in it that they would know and understand the Word of God and its infallibility. Pray that all might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, walking worthy of the Lord. (Col 1:9-10). That churches would teach the Word of the Lord boldly & plainly, loving their hearers, yet not condoning any sin. That their messages would not be compromised by worldly doctrines or political correctness. ‘Fornication’ is sin in God’s eyes (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Please pray for the re-establishing of churches as effective community and family connecting centres, known for their love.

Prayers for marriages of the church
  • Please pray that the church truly knows and understands that 'Jesus' is the only way to come to Father God (John 14:6). That they are to love those who trust in another god, humbly correcting them, praying that they turn to the one true God.
  • Pray for all married couples in the church – that they would make their relationship with their spouse a priority in their lives, leading by example. Mat 6:33.
  • Thank God for the many believers, including chaplains, who have been at work ministering to those affected by drought, flood, unemployment and fire. Pray that they will continue to walk in health, prosper and radiate their love of the Lord, bringing hope to needy people. Pray that they would trust the Lord and cast any cares upon Him.
  • Pray for all church members that they would love each other unconditionally whilst not condoning sinful behaviour. (1 Cor 13:7). That they would respect one another and honour the leadership (Rom 13:6), in a true spirit of humility (Phil 2:3). That they would make the time truly to care for one another, whether in-person or through other means. That they would have thankful hearts that are quick to forgive. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
  • Pray that marriage enrichment programmes/courses/events and pre marriage courses would be a regular feature in every church ministry - the use of on-line meetings being available where needed.
  • Pray that the church membership - old and young alike - is taught that each person's sexuality is a precious God given gift, and God loves each person, married or single, unconditionally. (Ps 139:14).
  • Pray that all church members would dress and conduct themselves respectably (Gk 'kosmios'- translated as 'respectable'- is the word used in 1Tim 2:9 referring to women and also in 1Tim 3:2 referring to men who are overseers.) Pray for sexual purity in the church & marriages. That those who have strayed are humbly corrected and accept the correction - then being loved back into fellowship. (Prov 4:23).
  • That parents would know and prayerfully undertake their roles as leaders of their Domestic (family) church in their home, imparting Godly wisdom to their children, preparing them to leave home, modelling honour, honesty and humility to them, and not rely on church leadership to do it. (Deut 6:5-7, Prv 29:17)
  • That there would be financial stewardship programmes run in every church, which would include a stream for married couples. (1 Thes 5:18).
  • That marriage ceremonies and any blessings given to married couples in the church and amongst it's members would only be between a biological man & a biological woman. (Mat 19:4-6).
  • That churches would actively teach and model the role of husbands. (Eph 5:29-32, 1Pt 3:7).
  • That churches would actively teach and model marriage as God intended. (Gen 2:25) That the Christian church teaches and understands that the primary purpose of marriage is to model God's love and to please God.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."

(Philippians 4:6 (KJV))

"Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."

Romans 13:8-10 NKJV
