The theme for Marriage Week this year is “Marriage a genesis of hope, a fountain of renewal in your journey towards lasting love!

This theme emphasizes the idea that marriage between a man and a woman as designed by God, can be the genesis, the foundation, of hope and the motivation, stimulation for renewal in life, a transformation of the heart. It motivates couples to grow in their love that endures time and will also serve as a Godly influence in their family and community for generations to come.

Here’s a breakdown of the theme’s meaning:

Genesis of Hope:

When established with a commitment of love and devotion with Christ at its centre, marriage can offer fortitude and resiliency under trying circumstances. For both husband and wife, it can provide consolation, encouragement, and support.

Fountain of Renewal:

Within marriage, there is the opportunity to refresh the relationship, increasing the joy and closeness of husband and wife. There is a continuing process of growth and development between husband and wife, as well as with their relationship to Christ.

Journey towards Lasting Love:

This emphasizes the importance of focused effort and commitment in creating strong, enduring love. Husband and wife need proactively to nurture and strengthen their bond for a happier, healthier relationship.

Marriage a genesis of hope, a fountain of renewal in your journey towards lasting love!”

Marriage Week gives an opportunity to honour marriages, to celebrate marriage as the foundation of our families and our nation—in which love is shared, faith is nurtured, and values like patience and forgiveness practised. It’s a chance for married couples to strengthen their marriage through quality time together, praying together, open conversations and more.

Let us in the Church make sure that we celebrate the beauty of God’s design of marriage through:

  • Giving couples the opportunity to share their testimony of life together—how God has sustained them through both joys and struggles. This can encourage other married couples on their journey.
  • Maybe there are married couples in the Church who wish to renew their vows before God and in public. Perhaps other couples, who made vows before becoming Christian, before a marriage celebrant, or before a false god, wish to renew their vows before God. Marriage Week is a great time for this.
When couples renew their vows, they often invite friends who do not know Jesus, so there is a wonderful opportunity for outreach with the appropriate follow-through.
  • Arranging a “Wedding Feast” (Rev: 6-9) where all can be invited and messages on marriage and salvation are given, for we know that time is running out. (Matthew 24)
  • Working together to show our nation God’s design and value of marriage in the full knowledge that it will bring about a healthier, happier and stronger nation. With the potential to impact for good the shocking statistics for domestic abuse, child abuse, pornography and the relationships outside the covenant of marriage.

"Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”"

Luke 17:20-21 NKJV
